Lance Cpl Aanesha Connor
May 9, 2002 - Nov 20, 2022
From: Rahway, New Jersey
Stationed: MCAS Yuma
Unit: "Watchdogs" Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 1
_____________________
Connor was simply driving her vehicle down Interstate 8 in El Centro, California when she was struck by a pickup truck that crossed the center median. Connor did not die in combat or even during a training exercise but she was incredibly valuable to the Marine Corps. Connor had a "no bs" attitude that she matched perfectly with bs at the right time and place. She was a Marine that understood the perfect balance of when it was time to be a Marine and when it was time to kick back and build moral.
Connor is remembered by her family as an incredibly beautiful soul and someone that illuminated every room she was in. Connors friends remember her as someone that knew what she wanted and was very straight forward about it. She was witty and hilarious with almost everything she would say but she had the ability to put jokes aside and show you, with full intention, that she was listening if you needed her to. Connor was a great Marine, and the Corps would have done well having her influence it longer than she got the chance to, but she also was a fantastic friend and individual aside from the Marine Corps.

PFC Zachary Riffle
Jun 11, 2003 - Jan 19, 2022
From: Kingwood, West Virginia
Stationed: Camp Lejeune
Unit: Combat Logistics Battalion 24, Combat Logistics Regiment 2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group
______________
Riff was traveling to conduct a HST (Helicopter Support Team) training exercise with majority of the rest of his platoon when they were ejected from the back of the medium tactical vehicle replacement (MTVR) also known as a 7-ton due to a rollover. Riff was crushed by the 7-ton while another marine (LCpl Jonathan Gierke) was pronounced deceased on the scene as well. 17 other Marines were ejected from the vehicle during this incident.
Riff will always be remembered as the guy that strived to make others smile or laugh. His family remembers him as the sweet and very loving boy while his friends remember him as the goofy. hyper guy. Riff was passionate about the Marine Corps and fully embraced the athletic requirement it took to be the best Marine he could be. He was a stellar Marine but the Corps would have been better if we got to keep Riff in it much longer.
